ITANAGAR, June 26: The state level consultative meeting on the Naga People’s Front (NPF)’ decision to launch its Arunachal Pradesh unit has unanimously resolved to oppose the launching of NPF unit in the state. The consultative meeting held at Banquet Hall here today under the initiatives of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) was attended by the representatives of all political parties, student’s organizations, civil societies, NGOs and media persons and AAPSU executive members. The house observed that Article 2 (c) of the NPF constitution has ‘revealed the ulterior motive and the agenda of the NPF’s intrusion in Arunachal Pradesh which is to promote and propagate communal and ethnic politics in the state, particularly in Tirap and Changlang and thereby to disintegrate the unity and integrity of the land and its people.
Launching NPF in the state is a serious menace to the unity and integrity of the state, the house opined and resolved that all political parties cutting across the party affiliation and NGOs would fight tooth and nail against political intrusion and launching of NPF in the state.

While resolving to launch a social boycott against the NPF urging people to refrain from joining it, the house endorsed AAPSU to lead a delegation of high power committee to the state government, and pressurize government to initiate prompt action to stop intrusion and launching of NPF in the state.
Earlier, expressing concern over the NPF launching its wing in the state particularly at trouble torn districts like Tirap and Khonsa, AAPSU president Takam Tatung vowed that NPF would not be allowed to function in the state since the party has ulterior motive, which would cause territorial threat to state. He lamented over participation of less number of legislators in the consultative meet and demanded explanation from them.
AAPSU general secretary Tujum Poyum wondered what benefits the people of Arunachal Pradesh will get from NPF. Former AAPSU president Dominic Tadar appealed all political parties to come out in opposing NPF move.
Former AAPSU leader Gumjum Haider suggested that responsibilities to oppose NPF to be fixed at state government. Journalist turned lawyer T.T Tara suggested for constitution of high power committee with members from different political parties and AAPSU to work out the issue.
Among others PPA president Kameng Ringu, Taba Tagam NCP representative, Tara Bagang, a senior citizen from East Kameng district, Babu Tingum, vice president of All Tirap District Students Union also spoke on the occasion.
Cyclone hits Bordumsa, minor dies
Bordumsa June 26: A low intensity cyclone which hit Bordumsa ADC HQ and its adjoining villages yesterday at about 4 pm left a minor boy dead and roof tops of several SPT and kutcha houses uprooted, according to a release issued by Bordumsa ADC.

The tragic incident occurred when a heavy branch of a tree fell down in front of the house of the deceased and hit the boy causing fatal head injuries. He was hurried off to the CHC Bordumsa where he was declared brought dead by doctors, the release said.
Bordumsa Additional Deputy Commissioner K Riba met the parents of the deceased at Kumung Pathar village and handed over them few amounts as an immediate relief.
Power supply at several places in between Bordumsa and Wagun Ghat and Bordumsa to Pengree, Assam was also affected due to falling down of several standing trees and bamboos over the HT lines.
Restoration work was going on in war footing. However, it will take a couple of days to restore power supply in remote areas and entire Bordumsa township as well as adjoining villages of Bordumsa circle.
The extent of the damage caused to the properties of individuals including standing crops by the cyclone are yet to be assessed.

Tuki said that increase in funding to state govts indicates how serious the Congress led UPA Government is for the development of every state. He referred to the 28% increase in Annual Plan outlay of Arunachal Pradesh this fiscal year.
The NDA Government’s funding policy on population basis was very much detrimental for the development of small state like Arunachal Pradesh due to which villages are still in under development stage, Tuki said.
On corruption issue, Tuki said that arrest of many corrupt politicians, bureaucrats in the recent past speaks volume about the firm step taken by the UPA Governments against corruption.
On Baba Ramdev issue, Tuki said that “he is a Yoga Guru only; but not a political guru. If he is so much interested in politics, he should fight election. But it is also sure that he will never win.” He also described how Ramdev’s recent move ‘backed by RSS and BJP’ to ‘fulfill his political ambition’ has become a big flop.

Intl. Day against Drug Abuse observed in Arunachal
ITANAGAR, June 26: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking along with rest of the world today.
In the state capital, Itanagar, a seminar competition on the topic “Drug Abuse, HIV/AIDS and the Youth” was organized to mark the day at Green Mount School, Itanagar. Konika Choudhary, a student of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya won the first prize. The second prize was shared by Ngurang Anam and Yayam Bagang of Green Mount School, Itanagar. Mihin Tarju of Kingcup School, Itanagar won the third prize.
All together ten students gave presentation on the topic representing various schools of the capital complex.
Dr. Kartik Nishing, Director Health Services, Naharlagun while attending the programme as the Chief Guest appreciated the young participants for creating awareness on drug abuse and HIV/AIDS through their seminar presentation. He was also happy to see more girl participants saying that “when you educate a boy you educate one person but when you educate a girl, you are educating a generation.”
Dr. Emi Rumi asked the young participants, who are the future of the state in particular and nation in general, to make this earth a better place to live. While quoting the message of Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki Moon, Dr Rumi said that the menace of Drug Abuse is not confined to any particular region. It’s a global threat and threat to existence of mankind. However it can be tackled effectively with the active participation of the youth, civil society and every individual.

Singa wailing for development
Dear Editor,
The state of Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed tremendous growth and development in economic, structural, technological, communication and industrial sectors in the last two decades. But the pillars of modernization, globalization and technological renaissance is scattered only upto the towns and the cities. The heart and soul of Arunachal – our rural villages are still deprived of the light of development.
Singa, a small village blessed with scenic beauty, natural vegetation and rich wildlife, biodiversity, lying in the outskirts of the Upper Siang district, is one such village wailing for development. Singa is located around 94 kms away from the nearest town Tuting and is surrounded by mountains and China border in north. Its population mainly constitutes of Idu Mishmis, Membas and Khambas. It is really shameful to state that the concerned government authorities have still not been able to connect this village to the rest of the district via road network. As a result the people of Singa walk all the way to Tuting to access the basic needs for their livelihood. And it will surely surprise you that they walk for two days on foot. It explains how hard life is there.
Electricity and health services are inefficient and inadequate. Due to unfavourable landscape wet farming is impossible here, so dry jhum farming is practiced along the hill slopes. As a result the cultivated production is not sufficient to satisfy their annual needs, and the people are compelled to visit Tuting to meet their daily needs.
The most effective and widespread communicational means of our present age is the mobile network. But sadly the authorities could not provide network connectivity to this lonesome village. Every year projects are made, sanctions are made and also authorities promise that “road will be soon connected” but two decades have passed and it still remains a dream. The government has never been able to provide a better life to the people of Singa but made it worse by regulating various wildlife Acts and declaring hunting as illegal and punishable Act. We do agree that wildlife conservation is important for ecological balance, but isn’t it considerable for a population of mere 300 people. Hunting is the traditional way of living for the local tribes, but now they are also devoid of their traditional way of livelihood.
The hardships and pain the people of Singa undergo to continue the struggle for existence depicts the true spirit of Arunachalis of never giving up. Lets speak out loud about every single untouched and neglected lands of our Arunachal, so that they too taste the fruits of development. Singa is a land blessed with natural vegetation, paradise like scenic beauty and is an ideal destination for tourists. Just a little attention is required from the government authorities. Lets hope that the new CM along with his council of ministers works their best for our state and bring the much needed light of development in the needful villages like Singa

Lets fight corruption in it’s totality
Dear Editor,
The recent claims and counter claims as appeared in media for the past one month have left this concern citizen with no option but to raise some of the pertinent questions that is baffling not only me but all and sundry.
At the outset, I would like to extend moral support to Sango Lamte Foundation for
raising the illegal appointments and I believe every educated individual with little
or more moral conscience would abhor illegal appointments, nepotism or in broader
term – corruption. When the whole of India is fighting tooth and nail against corruption,
the movement launched by the Foundation is a tiny yet all-
This can’t be mere coincidence that the said Foundation filed RTI in two departments – Tax and Excise and Art and Culture which was followed by FIR. There is only one similarity between these two departments – the children of minister Atum Welly who were allegedly appointed through fraudulent means.
Is Atum Welly being targeted under the guise of fighting against illegal appointments/corruption? Why pick and choose these two departments alone? Where as we know that scores of illegal appointments were made in almost all the departments down the years.
If our memory is intact, around 2000 illegal appointments in various Govt departments were unearthed through RTI by Save Arunachal Forum (as reported by Taba Ajum in Arunachal Times on March 28 edition). What happened to that, why there is no follow up action by any pressure group or NGOs?
It is observed that almost all the departments have good share of illegal appointments where SSA and NRHM are topping the list.
Therefore, I would really appreciate if Sango Lamte Foundation and all other RTI
activists take the cudgel upon themselves and fight against appointments made in
various departments with same gusto in order to see Arunachal as a corruption-

Outdated UPSC forms
Dear Editor,
I could not appear the the civil service preliminary exam which was held on June 13, 2011. My candidature was rejected by the UPSC as I filled up the old form which I had purchased from the head post office, Itanagar. Like me, many other UPSC aspirants may have missed the preliminary exam.
How such a responsible head post office could sell old UPSC forms? Who knows the rejected candidates may got selected in that preliminary exam. They have exploited us, we lost both money and valuable times.
Therefore, I would like to appeal to the authorities concerned to look into the matter seriously to avoid recurrence of such blunder in future.

A tale of unrecognized village
Dear Editor,
The Naitong village which comes under Kanubari circle in Tirap district was established more than three decades ago. The genesis of this village can be traced back to late 1970s when the people started to settle down in the present area which is under Borduria reserve forest. Though it has already crossed three decades since its inception, the village is yet to get its due status and official recognition, as a result the villagers have been deprived of the benefit of development schemes being sanctioned by the Govt every year.
Besides, all the above, the village is facing many other multifaceted problems like boundary dispute with Assam and transportation problems etc which are directly related to the lack of permanent status of Naitong village. Despite having a duly registered and recognized polling station, the Naitong village is still to be recognized officially.
Therefore, I appeal to all concerned including NGOs to raise voice for recognition of the village so that problems being faced by the villagers, particularly students and young generation could be solved.
